SAS can help you move mountains.

Studio Archive Services (SAS) is dedicated to bridging traditional archival methods, curatorial practices, and digital tools as a way to help clients organize their records and to introduce artwork, ephemera, or historical documents to new audiences. The SAS methodology is concerned with the entire life cycle of records. SAS not only provides organizational and preservation expertise, but also considers the way in which content can be accessed, interpreted, and re-interpreted for the future.

Establishing an archive is like contributing to a savings fund; as interest (metadata) accrues, the investment generates a greater return over time. The first step to benefiting from the return of an organized archive is to create a system and commit to implementing it.

With meticulous attention to detail and experience with a wide range of digital tools available to you, SAS can bring relief to artists, collectors, businesses, and creative individuals that find it difficult to make time for the arduous task of maintaining an archive.

  • I learned a lot about the importance of having a categorization system. It will be great to have these notes to refer back to. I think about these kinds of things but now the are all organized on paper! - Annie
  • I found it useful to think about the image filing/naming systems, and also the creation of standardized forms to keep track of studio visits, lectures, and things that can provide good reflection space. - Emily
  • This was so helpful to make sense of starting a huge project. So informative! And perfectly casual. - Emma

  • I wish they had allotted you more time. It was most helpful. Amazingly, (one week later) I have already implemented some of what you presented. I will further refine based on your recommendations. I LOVE the map of storage locations. - Jeanne
  • Thanks a ton! Thank you for speaking at the Chicago Alliance of Visual Artist Symposium today. You are truly an expert in your field and I loved your background and style. - Chris
